AiRace Xeno is primarily a "racing" game consisting of time trials with some additional bonus stages. Players complete 2 to 4 laps in high-speed planes, aiming for the fastest time to earn medals and unlock new tracks. In the bonus level, players must guide their ship through the rings for a certain amount of time. There are no computer-controlled opponents here, and the high speed of the ship does not allow for good control during maneuvers, but often experimental tasks require players to do this all the time.
Maneuverability, for my taste, is too changeable, but with the nature of the aircraft, this is understandable. With constant braking, the ship flies quickly and is controlled reliably and often touches deliberately placed obstacles. The tracks are designed to resemble a space colony with an industrial look and alien elements.
Graphically, the game may lack both color and overall theme. A quick flight through the areas is probably not the best way to experience them. Musically, the tournament is accompanied by an electronic soundtrack, which does little to improve the gameplay and only gives players moments of joy. The console's 3D effect helps elevate the game a bit, but it's not enough to bring the environment to life.
Overall, AiRace Xeno could have focused on stronger AI opponents, better main mode progression, more interesting environments, and less speed control. However, it's not an expensive game, and the included time trials and tracks are a joy to play. Fans of the Wipeout and F Zero series might like the game's gender resemblance.
