Game: Skyspace
System: Nintendo 3DS
Developer: Sonic Powered
Release date: June 26, 2014
Skypeace is a running game that combines elements of running shooting games with the collecting aspects of the runner. Players move around a 3x3 grid on the left side of the screen, trying to avoid enemies and collect coins and gems for combos. There are a total of 10 levels with two characters to choose from and various achievements to unlock.
The gameplay is fluid and fast, and while there isn't a lot of in-game content, the difficulty increases significantly between levels, and the overall concept of the game lacks enough variety to warrant multiple levels on the same theme. . . . It would be great if there were two playable characters and some skills or more differences to break up the game a bit.
Graphically, the game is quite sharp and the 3D effects work very well to give players and enemies depth in the sky. The music plays well with the game, providing an immersive and consistent performance. The enemy designs could have been a bit more varied and the coins to collect could have been a bit more detailed, but that's a minor issue.
Overall, Skypeace is good for a cheap game, but too short to enjoy. With multiple game modes, multiple levels, and tons of enemies and collectibles, the entire game feels and feels like quality replayability. If you still have a 3DS I'd recommend playing it as it's only 89p at the moment.
