Game Review: Asphalt Urban GT 2

Game: Asphalt City GT 2
Console: Portable Sony PlayStation
Developer: Virtuos
Release Date: July 1, 2010

Portable rides are rarely classic or even really good. Although there are some exceptions to this rule, most passengers are disappointed. Asphalt Urban GT 2 is the sequel to the N-Gage and DS games and incorporates many of the elements we've already seen in racing games. Gathering tracks are equipped with money and nitro, of which there are 3 different upgrade levels, bikers also earn money for takedowns and dangerous driving, which can make the police chase them. The tracks take place in real locations, and the game features licensed cars, some of which seem to want to be imagined!

In terms of gameplay, the race feels like a blend of the rest of the series; London Rider, Need for Speed Most Wanted series, Burnout and Crus'n series. Thanks in large part to all the different elements put together, the race itself looks pretty cheap; Eliminations are pretty unsatisfying and look a little silly when your opponents are on the move, the nitro boost shakes the screen like an earthquake rather than giving a sense of speed, and the difficulty level is fairly easy. Turns is an arcade game with a somewhat cheap control model, it's very hard to crash if you don't try.

The game has two modes. Arcade mode is similar to show mode where there are no real prizes for winning one race. In the main mode, there are tournaments that can be won by participating in three types of races; Eliminations, speed trials and regular races. It is set on a limited set of in-game tracks, and no other real-world events take place as the game progresses. Some cars are unlocked and there are modification options, but there is no real incentive to use this option because most leagues state which type of car you should use.

Graphically, the game is inferior to some barely recognizable licensed cars. The locations aren't detailed enough to impress, although for the most part it's clear what they're trying to portray. For some reason, the game is based on the Pussycat Dolls that appear on the loading screen but add more. There is only one track included in the menu screen, which plays continuously when you return between races, even after a very long load. It's terrible for a game Ubisoft dares to call it that.

All in all, Asphalt Urban GT 2 is yet another racing game, this time a sequel to a mobile game that will probably have some changes. The game has no difficulty or progress, taking elements from several popular franchises only to turn it into a racing experience with little or no excitement or excitement. The most interesting thing here is that the game came out in 2010, when hundreds of the best racing games were available.

Score: 48/100
