Game Review: Yakuza 6

Yakuza 6 game:
Console: Sony PlayStation 4
Developer: Sega
Posted: April 17, 2018

It's been a while since I've reviewed a game on this blog. Playing a lot of games in a short time can burn your desire to play anything. So this year, I mostly spent my playtime trying out longer and more cheat games than the Yakuza series. According to Sega, Yakuza 6 is the latest console installment in the series and the last Yakuza game to feature Kazuma Kiryu as the protagonist. After all, he's 48 when he plays in 2017.

The game's plot revolves around Kiryu's 21-year-old adopted daughter, Haruka Sawamura, and reveals the secret to her success with Haruka Sawamura. As the quest to find the boy's father unfolds, an even greater mystery is revealed, and in the second part of the game, Kiryu and a small yakuza defy the will of everyone around them to uncover the greatest political secret that Japan has ever known.

Unlike Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, 6 features an all-new game engine; Dragon engine. The updated graphics are the first thing you notice, the game looks amazing and the battles are smoother than ever with bigger areas to fight. Another impressive feature is the elimination of built-in load times, which means battles can expand to shops, restaurants, and anywhere Kiryu can play. The leveling system has also been overhauled and now includes five experience classes that can be used to acquire new moves, attributes, and skills.

The game's color balance can be reversed like any other Yakuza title; In the main plot, the serious and somewhat daring search for reality is balanced with silly side quests, attractive diversions and mini-games, and there are plenty of things you can easily do before diving in for another 10 at 8 p.m. in writing. - the game is over. For one thing, some of the best Yakuka subs happen in this game, and that's really saying something.

Interestingly, Yakuza 6 features particularly well-known Japanese actors, including Beat Takeshi (Battle Royale, Takeshi's Castle) and Hiroyuki Miyosako (Kamikaze Girls), lending their looks and voices to add star power and bigger budget feel. , more than ever. The character writing in the game feels more than ever that there are clear motives, purposes, and reasons behind the actions of all the significant characters in the story, as the game leaves no unresolved threads until the end.

If you like the Yakuza series, I highly recommend this game to start with; The pre-Kiwami ending might give a good idea of some recurring characters. If you've never played Yakuza, it's best to start with Yakuza 0, as there is no previous story to match this episode. Although the game design, writing, visuals, music and concept come together to prove that video games can and always will be an art form.

Score: 98/100
