Galaxy Force is an interesting space shooter that makes its own rules at a time when most video games in this genre are fairly homogeneous. Initially, players can choose which of the game's four missions they want to play first. This is followed by several minutes of Afterburner-style random space shooting as the player flies towards the planet until the player finds a tunnel. Flying through this zigzag tunnel will complete the mission and return the player to the mission menu screen.
The levels are colorful and varied, although there are only four, the first part of the mission is perhaps too free, and in the second part there is almost no combat; simply by turning left or right depending on the command. While Galaxy Force is unique, there's no doubt that it's a very short game once you know what you're doing.
Graphically, the game is impressive for its time, especially the intro sequences that precede missions. The second part of the mission can be too bright, with alternating black and white walls and flashing turn-by-turn directions. The in-game music has real bass line and is also worth listening to outside the game.
Overall, Galaxy Force struggles to be more than an engaging set of two game modes and multiple varying space levels. That's all it takes to really make a Master System game stand out, and while it lacks replay value, it's a great little game.
